No flower today, I promise.

Red flower overload, anyone? No matter. These things are brief, you have to enjoy them. Every day I come home from school, go over to the "corner of wonder" (aka my winter garden) and coo like a woman who is looking at a baby. My plants are my babies, what can I say.

Last night had the most fortunate encounter with an OCD friend who decided *on the spot* to help me whip my vacation suitcase into shape. Before we could do that we had to align everything else with the stars. So now my dishes are done, my laundry is folded, I have a plant-sitter and my little suitcase is about stuffed. She tried to get me a bigger suitcase, but lady, please--I have to haul it myself. Smaller is better. Less is more. Tropics don't require layers. My checked baggage is full already with other things to give away, and so I anticipate hauling back a cache of goodies--Mrs. Jimenez actually requested Sazon Completo! I can do that, sweetie!!

(Side note: Mrs. Jimenez came to see me before she was a Mrs. She stayed in my apartment in Cabrera, and the second she realized I had real, down pillows on the guest-bed, she almost went berserk. "The pillows in this country are a travesty!" she shouted. Reminds me: bring a good pillow.)

Ahh. Now to get through the next 48 hours. Tomorrow I am committed to ice skating and all kinds of games. Tomorrow afternoon, south-bound.

Curiously the weather was so lovely yesterday I walked all around with just a down vest. People are complaining about the lack of snow. Whatevs. I feel better by not losing a week of good skiing.

(I see you have a beautiful photo here of "Varnum Pond." I didn't know there was such a place. My maiden name is Varnum.)
